First Look Around: Prescott’s Diversity
If you’re visiting for the first time, you will want to take in the sights and sounds of our little town, and figure out why the locals love it. With so much going on, it can be hard to know where to start. We have selected three of our favorite things that make Prescott great.
Art and Entertainment
Prescott is home to some of the finest art in the state. You can spend an afternoon or an entire weekend taking in the sights of Prescott’s artists. Find an artist who you really connect with, and you are sure to find a sculpture or painting that tickles your fancy.
If you are looking for entertainment, you can be moved by a play, laugh with a comedy troupe, or enjoy the sounds of a live concert at the Elks Theater or the Prescott Center for the Arts. You can even catch a great act at the Raven Cafe. Additionally, there are live music performances throughout the week at local restaurants and bars.
If you’re traveling with a furry companion, you know how special it is to visit a community where dogs are accepted. Prescott is that place. You can take your four-legged family member to our beautifully designed dog park, one of our two dog stores, or simply walk around the town square and socialize with the other dogs and dog owners.
Prescott even hosts an annual dog celebration known as Dogtoberfest. There are costume contests, races, and parades. Everything to keep your puppy busy all day long. Even if you are not a dog owner, this canine party is the cutest and cuddliest event you will attend all year. You may even be tempted to take home a puppy of your own during the adoption event.
Downtown is home to dozens of unique, locally owned shops and boutiques. Every town has shopping, but these aren’t the corporate-owned shops that you find everywhere else. Each of these shops has its own take on the customer shopping experience.
You can start your day off at one of the local coffee roasters where you can sip your coffee and enjoy a perfect view of the courthouse. Once it’s time to move on, you can roam the square to find a good assortment of clothing boutiques each with its own specialty. If you are downtown, a trip to one of the quaint antique stores is a must, but be careful because you might find yourself unable to stop browsing through decades of fascinating memorabilia. Before you head home, be sure to stop the candy shop for a handmade treat.
In Prescott, there is something for everyone. If you’re the adventurous type, there’s always a new trail to hike, a new place to see, new food to taste, or new community event in which to take part. Yes, this little town will keep you on your toes, and that’s why we love it.
